Longtime Juneau resident Serg Andrew Astra, 73, died Oct. 21, 2006, in his home.

Born in San Francisco, his family remembers his infectious smile and how, in his presence, there was always laughter.

He earned his degree in marine biology at the University of Washington, and was employed many years by the Department of Fisheries in the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Astrahantseff, of Essen, Germany; brother, Nicolai Astrahantseff, of Coronado, Calif.; cousin, Helen Benz, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and good friend and former wife, Maria Gascon (Astra), of Juneau.

His family and friends welcome all who knew him to celebrate his life at 1 p.m. Dec. 29 at the Juneau Christian Center.
