Juneau resident Esther Martina Bailey, 80, died Dec. 18, 1997, at Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau.

She was born Oct. 16, 1917, in Seattle, the youngest of seven children.

She graduated from Ballard High School. She married and moved to Petersburg, where she lived for many years. She worked for Dave Ohmer's Shrimp Co.

Her husband died in 1972, and she moved to Juneau in 1975. She met and married Ben Bailey in 1975. She worked in the health care system.

Her daughter writes that she loved to travel in the Yukon every summer and enjoyed berry picking and cooking. She loved people and always had a smile, and entertained people with her wonderful talkative personality.

She is survived by her daughters, Marit Stevens of Wrangell and Emma West of Kettle Falls, Wash.; her husband, Ben Bailey of Juneau; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
