THE JUNEAU EMPIRE

Melvin Bruce Brady died Aug. 20, 2001, in Wrangell.

He was born Dec. 13, 1916, in Sweet Home, Ore. Brady joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and then worked as a logger. During World War II, he served with the Seabees on the New Hebrides islands in the South Pacific and also with the Medical Corps.

After the war Brady spent the rest of his life as a barber. He barbered throughout Southeast Alaska, including Juneau, and finally settled down in Wrangell more than 20 years ago.

Brady loved his family and friends, Alaska and hunting and fishing. He will be remembered for that love, for his sweet smile and will be missed, his family wrote.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy; stepchildren Norman Israelson of Kenai, Sylvia Geraghty of Wrangell, and David and Judy Israelson of Yakutat; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and sisters Berneice Brady of Oregon and Beulah Kee of California.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at the American Legion Hall in Wrangell.
