Former Juneau resident David "Red" Jonas Capp died Feb. 22, 2007, in Hayward, Calif., after a short battle with cancer. He was 55.

Born Jan. 6, 1952, in Santa Cruz, Calif., to Bob and Betty Capp. He was a 1970 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School.

He is remembered for his red hair and wrestling. His love of fishing began in high school when he worked two seasons on the Ocean Queen out of Hoonah. After attending the University of Alaska Fairbanks, he worked as a pipefitter on the trans-Alaska oil pipeline and the North Slope for 10 years. During that time, he was married briefly and had a daughter. He returned to California and fishing in the 1990s. He bought a troller and lived aboard, calling Fishermen's Wharf home.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Danielle Capp; parents, Bob and Betty Capp; and "mom number two," Becky Capp.

He is survived by his brothers, Sam Capp and his wife, Debra Cokeley, of Juneau, Fred Capp and his wife, Robin Baylor, of Los Gatos, Calif., and Chris Capp and his wife, Louisa, of Santa Cruz; fianceé, Vicky Bray, of San Leandro, Calif.; step siblings, Jim Shoemaker, Carol Shoemaker Blevins, and Randy, Dana and Dylan Gibson; and stepmother, Nola Capp.

A memorial celebration will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at the Fishermen's and Seaman's Memorial Chapel at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. Friends and family please bring your best Dave story, photograph or jokes to share.
