Obituary - Frances Elizabeth DeRoux

Frances DeRoux, 81, died Aug. 14, 2001, in her home in Juneau.

She came to Alaska in 1937 and spent the rest of her life in Smuggler's Cove Auke Bay. In the 1950s, DeRoux fished commercially with her husband. She was active in the outdoors, bowling leagues, square dancing, sport fishing and tending her garden in her later years. She was a member of Pioneers of Alaska and Igloo No. 6 in Juneau.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, LeRoy F. DeRoux.

DeRoux is survived by her daughter Diane DeRoux-Sportel and her husband William Sportel Sr. of Juneau; sister-in-law Cleone DeRoux of Washington; nephews Kenneth and Daniel DeRoux of Juneau, Richard DeRoux and Emil Waldal of Washington, Gerald Constantino of Washington and Norman E. DeRoux of Oregon; nieces Kathleen Hill Ramm of Washington, and Carmen, JoAnn and Toni Utt of Wasilla; brothers Jim and Randy Holt of California.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of her life from 4-9 p.m. on Aug. 24, 2001, at 1015 Fritz Cove Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to a favorite charity or to the Parkinson's Research Fund at Virginia Mason Clinic, Box 900, Seattle, WA 98111.
