Obituary - Clayton G. Fleek

Lifelong Alaskan Clayton Gale Fleek died July 14, 2001, at the Juneau Pioneers' Home.

Fleek was born to William Alfred and Leona Mary Fleek at their home in Douglas on Aug. 31, 1925. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard in Southeast Alaska where he met his wife Elaine Frances Sarff.

Between 1946 and 1949 he managed the family business, Fleek's Transfer, which later became Douglas Trucking. While he worked at numerous jobs, his occupation of choice was fishing.

Fleek was preceded in death by his wife Frances; daughters Gail Ann Fleek and Gail Ilene Bentsen; siblings Dale A., Everett, Albert, Norman, Dayton and Gwendolyn Fleek.

He is survived by siblings Effie Lunch of Ketchikan, Irvin Fleek of Washington, Wilfred Fleek and wife Pauline of Washington and Alfreda Dore of Douglas; children Clayton A. Fleek and wife Sandra of Douglas, Margaret and husband Terry Quinn of Arizona, William Ernest and wife Carol of Juneau and Mary and husband Leroy Butts of Nevada; grandchildren Kristi Covone and husband Neil, Gail Dixson and husband Mike, Laura Fleek, Timothy Bentsen, Sean Quinn and wife Andrea and Nalani Butts; sisters-in-law Charlotte Fleek of Oregon, Mary Fleek of California and Alvera Aren of Illinois; and numerous great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. July 20, 2001, at the Juneau Pioneers' Home, 4675 Glacier Highway. Family and friends are invited to attend.
