THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Marilyn
Freymueller
Longtime Juneau resident Marilyn Freymueller died at home on March 19, 2007, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 76.
After her birth to Ray and Frances Knight on Jan. 29, 1931, in Lakewood, N.J., the family soon moved to California where Marilyn was raised. She graduated from Alameda High School in 1948.
In October 1951, she, along with Barbara Aase, Sue Brewer and best friend Sally Thibodeau, arrived in Juneau via steamship. Juneau was now home. On Oct. 16, 1954, Marilyn married Chuck Freymueller.
She had several jobs throughout her life in Juneau, but most notable were the different positions she held at Bartlett Regional Hospital in the business office and in medical records. After her retirement, she found her most fulfilling work was in the hundreds of volunteer hours she dedicated to the hospital. Her belief was that what you put into a community helps make it a better place to live.
Family members said she was an inspiration and friend to many and will be missed but never forgotten.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Kris Cole and her husband, Mike, and Wendy Hughes and her husband, Larry, of Juneau; sister, Nola Pflueger and her husband, Herman, of Colorado; and grandchildren, Jennifer Fidler and her husband, Grayson, Eric McDougal and Nicole Hughes, all formerly of Juneau and now residing in Oregon, and Ashley and Travis Cole, formerly of Juneau and now residing in Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at Chapel by the Lake. In lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made to the Bartlett Regional Hospital Foundation, 3230 Hospital Drive, Juneau, AK, 99801, and to Hospice and Home Care of Juneau, 419 Sixth St., Juneau, AK, 99801.
The family can be contacted at 9346 Lee Smith Drive, Juneau, AK, 99801.
