Obituary - Martha Frost

Martha Frost, 103, died July 8, 2001.

Frost was born Oct. 12, 1897, in Hastings, Mich. As a teen-ager, her family moved to a small mining town in Virginia. While there, Frost taught piano as well as completing her high school education. She was preparing a move to Europe in order to formalize her training as a blossoming concert pianist, but World War I engulfed the continent and her plans were canceled. In the spring of 1914, her family traveled to the Yukon Territory where Frost met her eventual husband Archie Fournier. They were married and raised four children on a Klondike ranch.

In 1944 Frost moved to Salem, Ore., and married Ivan "Buzz" Frost. After Ivan died in 1964, Frost moved to Seattle where she lived until 1995 when her daughter Martha and husband Hjalmar Savikko invited her to live with them in Juneau. Frost was very proud of the fact that she had lived in three centuries.

She is survived by her son Murrell Fournier and wife Ginny of Washington; daughters Martha Savikko of Juneau, Isabelle Townsend and husband George of Vancouver, and Betty St. Jean of British Columbia; granddaughter Merle McCann and husband Don in Arizona; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be scheduled on a later date.
