Jackson Horton Hammond died Nov. 25, 2001, in Juneau.

Born April 26, 1915, in Fremont, Neb., Hammond lived in Long Beach, Calif., for most of his life. He moved to Juneau in January 2001, to be with his daughter.

He studied at the University of Nebraska and worked as a micropaleontologist for the oil industry.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Fredella M. Hammond; sons Jeffrey H. and John M. Hammond; son-in-law Donald C. Plummer; and sister Katherine H. McDonald.

He is survived by his daughter Susan "Sioux" Plummer, Juneau; brother Earl Horton Hammond, Sisters, Ore.; grandsons Taylor Hammond, Orange, Calif., Timothy S. Cunningham, Juneau, and James S. Plummer, Skagway; granddaughters Josie Hammond, Seattle, and Carrie E. Pusich, Juneau; and three great-grandchildren.

No public memorial service or funeral will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to Fireweed Place, Wildflower Court or Hospice and Home Care of Juneau.
