Longtime Juneau resident Marjory Huizer died Dec. 14, 2001, in Friday Harbor, Wash. She was 80. She is survived by her husband Ed. A full obituary will follow.

Marjory V. Huizer

Marjory V. (Wentworth) Huizer died Dec. 14, 2001, at Friday Harbor, Wash., after an extended illness.

She was born in Choteau, Mont., on July 17, 1921, to Allen and Dora Wentworth. She attended schools in Montana and the University of Washington, where she studied sculpture.

Huizer and longtime friend Alice (Sigismund) Cooley came to Juneau in 1949 and opened an art shop in the Gastineau Hotel. She worked for the territory of Alaska Attorney General's Office and for the state of Alaska's Legislative Affairs Agency.

She married Ed Huizer in 1958 and they built their home on Fritz Cove Road. She was an active skier, hiker, fisherperson and lover of the outdoors.

She is survived by her husband Ed; sister Alta Swainson and her husband Gil, Billings, Mont.; sister Bess Severtson and her husband Jack, Great Falls, Mont.; nieces and nephews, and a large extended family of friends and coworkers.

She will be remembered as a loving and compassionate person always willing to help.

Friends will gather at a later date to share their memories.
