THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Juneau resident Donald Frank James Sr. died Aug. 20, 2001, in Mount Edgecumbe.
He was born July 19, 1947, in Petersburg and spent his childhood in Kake. He graduated from Kake High School and Seattle Philadelphia Bible School. In 1968, James married Arne Berkeley. He had several different careers, including heavy equipment operator, fuel manager, mayor of Kake, EMT, skipper, fisherman, volunteer fireman and police officer.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and ministering to anyone who would listen, his family wrote.
James is survived by his wife Arne James; sons Donald James Jr. and Dale James; daughters Dorene Howard and Delphine Adams; sisters Hattie Dalton Thelma Calton and Pauline James; aunt Helen Skeek; uncle Charles Dewitt; adopted siblings Royal Jackson Jr. and Dorothy Carter; first cousin Clifford Tagaban; sisters-in-law Marian Adams, Darlene Berkeley, Debbie Berkeley and Sue Berkeley; brothers-in-law Dennis Berkeley, George Dalton, Tom Berkeley, Les Berkeley, Clifford Adams Sr. and Bill Caton; grandchildren Alicia, Miranda, Jasmine, Clifton, Charley, Peter III, Oceanne, Shawnae and Marissa.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at the Church of God in Juneau. Another memorial service will be held in Kake at 7 p.m., Aug. 23, 2001 in the Community Hall. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Aug. 24, 2001, also at the Kake Community Hall.
