Juneau resident Mary Edith Jordan died Feb. 13, 2007, after a severe asthma attack. She was 51.

She was born Oct. 14, 1955, in Hixson, Tenn. She buried both her mother and father at the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Colorado.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology from Arizona State University.

When she first arrived in Juneau, she started as a paralegal with Douglas Greg and moved on to work for JRU. She later became a longtime employee for the U.S. Postal Service.

According to family members, she ran for the state Senate as a member of the Green Party because she recognized the need to preserve the beauty and wild nature of Alaska, while still providing for its people.

It was a joy for her to have received more votes than former-Gov. Frank Murkowski did in the last election.

She was the caretaker at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range for eight years and was a fully certified instructor in shooting.

She dedicated her time to youth and women's shooting programs.

Family members said she had touched many people's lives and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her son, Joshua Jordan and his wife, Stephanie Jordan, both longtime Juneau residents; two older brothers, Gene Johnson, of Missouri, and Jack Johnson, from Colorado, now a new Juneau resident.

A memorial will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19, at the Shrine of St. Therese. The doors will be open until 7:30 p.m. to come and pay respects.

In lieu of flowers and other gifts, please give donations to the Outdoor Skill Club, which is associated with 4-H.
