William J. "Bill" Knight, 54, of Alaska (formerly of Imlay City), died in Las Vegas, Nevada, after a brief illness.

He was born March 10, 1950, in Lapeer, to William E. and Ruth (Wilson) Knight.

He grew up in Imlay City, where his family owned the Knight's Ben Franklin store. He graduated from Imlay City High School in 1968 and served with the Army in Vietnam from 1970-72. After his military service, he moved to Juneau, Alaska, where he was very active in community affairs. He was the president of the Jaycee's and the Glacier Valley Rotary Club in the late 1970s. In 1982, he was elected to the Juneau City Assembly. He owned an office supply business in Alaska.

He is survived by his daughter, Jillian Knight of Harrisburg, Ore.; sisters, Ruth Knight Young of Miami, Florida, Julianne Knight Folta of Haines, Alaska, and Mary Knight Asper of Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands.

He was cremated. His ashes will be scattered in Alaska at a family gathering this summer.

Former Juneau resident William "Bill" Knight died April 25, 2004, in Las Vegas, Nev., after a brief illness.

He was born March 10, 1950, in Lapeer, Mich. He graduated from Imlay City, Michigan High School in 1968 and served with the Army in Vietnam from 1970-72. He was active in community affairs during the 10 years he lived in Juneau. He was the President of the Juneau Jaycee's and the Glacier Valley Rotary Club in the late 1970s. In 1982 he was elected to the Juneau City and Borough Assembly.

He is survived by his daughter, Jillian Knight of Harrisburg, Ore.; and by his sisters, Ruth Young of Miami, Fla., Julianne Folta and Mary Asper of Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands and Haines.

He was cremated and his ashes will be scattered at a family gathering in Alaska this summer.
