Former Juneau resident Jeanne R. Martin, 67, of Central Point, Ore., died March, 21, 2001, in Talent, Ore.

She was born in Montague, Mass., June 23, 1933, the daughter of Leona (Howard) and Philip A. Robert. She attended schools in Greenfield, Mass., graduating in 1951 from Greenfield High School.

In 1954, she moved to San Diego, Calif., where she was a legal secretary for several years. In 1978, she moved to Juneau, where she became executive secretary to the Tlingit-Haida Central Council. She later became secretary to Justice Allen Compton in Juneau and for a representative in the Alaska Legislature. Following retirement, she moved to Oregon.

While in Alaska, she was a volunteer for Hospice and Big Sisters, receiving the Alaska Big Sister of the Year Award. She was a member of the National Association of Legal Secretaries.

Martin was a foster parent and kept in contact with many of the foster girls who lived with her.

Besides her mother of Turners Falls, Ore., she is survived by a son, Paul Martin of Ashland, Ore.; a daughter, Virginia Hartnett of San Diego; a brother, David Robert of Squim, Wash.; a sister, Theresa Russell of Cumberland, Maine, three grandchildren, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A her request, services in Oregon were private.
