Hector McLean, 72, prominent insurance agent of Juneau, died at his home in Juneau, last Sunday, July 6. He had been ill several months.
McLean came to the Territory first during the gold rush and prospected in the Dawson country. He was Deputy Marshal in Skagway in 1908 and was transferred to Juneau in that position. As Deputy Marshal he served under four different Marshals until 1915 when he became head of the employment office for the Alaska Juneau mine.
About 1925, McLean started his insurance business and by 1937 it had grown to where he resigned his place at the mine to devote his entire time to it.
McLean was born in Cape Breton Novia Scotia. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks and Pioneers. Surviving him are his wife, Elsie and one son, Joseph, of Juneau.
He was buried Tuesday morning from the Church of the Nativity with interment in the Elks plot of Evergreen Cemetery.
