THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Juneau resident Katrina Alexis McMahon died Dec. 14, 2001, in Taos, N.M. She was 27.
Born August 6, 1974, in Seattle, Wash., she attended Juneau schools, home school and the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau. She worked for Juneau Montessori School, and was employed at Taos Ski Valley as a children's ski instructor at the time of her death.
She enjoyed biking, running, mountain climbing, windsurfing, skiing, snowboarding, scuba diving, animals, gardening and travel. She was active in dance and theater and was an avid reader and writer and a wonderful cook, her family said.
Her friend Sharon Lane described her as a "well-traveled person, with a true love of life and a smile we will never forget. Now this world, in all its craziness, has one less smile, a smile that brought warmth to our mountain tops."
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, one grandmother and one aunt. She is survived by her parents, Robert McMahon and Mary Thomas, brothers Shaun and Rory McMahon, her grandmother Rita Thomas, and a number of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at the DIPAC hatchery in Juneau. Special memorial contributions can be made to the Juneau Montessori School children's library, 750 St. Ann's Avenue, Douglas, AK 99824.
