Former Juneau resident Gilbert I. Mixson died Dec. 3 in Rincon, Ga.

A U.S. Coast Guard retiree, Mixson was born in Yemassee, S.C., to Gilbert M. Mixson and Josephine Willingham Mixson. He lived in Juneau from 1968 to 1982.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce Ray Mixson; son "Chip" Mixson, Juneau; son "Mac" Mixson, St. Mary's, Ga.; daughter Belinda Ross, North Charleston, S.C.; daughter Jo Shipes, Rincon, Ga.; daughter Gina Vose, Juneau; sisters Eleanor Helmly and Alice Bennett, Rincon, Ga.; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
