THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Former Juneau resident and longtime Valdez resident Diana Lee Payne died Dec. 18, 1998, of cancer, in Valdez. She was 49.
She was born Oct. 7, 1949, in Palmer. She grew up in Glennallen and Fairbanks, and lived briefly in Juneau in the early 1960s. She was a lifelong Alaskan.
She loved spending time with her daughter and granddaughters. She enjoyed gardening, flying and hunting with her husband Don. She also liked to help others and enjoyed her work at Harborview Hospital and Horizon Homes.
She was a life member of the Pioneers of Alaska and a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert I. Dittman. Survivors include her husband Don E. Payne, daughter Cindy Ezell and granddaughters Britni, Kacey and Rachel, sister Donna Gifford and brother Robert Dittman, all of Valdez; and her mother, Florence Heppler of Juneau.
Memorial services will be held Sunday in Valdez. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.
