THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Minnesota resident Evelyn Adeline Porter, 60, died May 29, 2001, in Fargo, N.D.
Adeline was born Sept. 5, 1940, to Andrew Sr. and Matilda "Paul" Gamble in Juneau. She graduated from Sheldon Jackson High School in Sitka and went on to attend Haskell Indian Jr. College in Lawrence, Kan. On Feb. 17, 1961, she married Fred "Pat" C. Porter Sr. Adeline worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for more than 17 years, retiring in 1987. She also worked with the White Earth Suicide Prevention Program and later worked part time at the Village Store in Naytahwaush, Minn.
Adeline enjoyed going to the casino, playing bingo, traveling, watching her grandchildren play sports, and being around friends and family. Children were the love of Adeline's life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Andrew Gamble Sr.; her husband, Fred; her son Raymond; her daughter Deanna Porter; her brother Ivan Gamble and sister Andrea Eames.
She is survived by her mother Matilda Gamble of Alaska; her son Fred (Sharon) C. Porter Jr. of Minnesota; her daughters Tracy (Russ) Lynn Porter and Patricia Jo Porter both of Minnesota; her brothers Andrew Gamble Jr. of Angoon, Melvin of Wasilla and Gerald (Cindy) of Craig; sisters Henrietta Jean (David) Hogue of Washington and Georgina (Joe) Evans of Angoon; 11 grandchildren, two of whom she raised, Sonny and Jessica; one great-grandchild; her nieces, nephews, and special cousins Fenton and Ida James of Juneau.
