THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Juneau resident Donald E. Richter died March 23, 2001, in Burney, Calif., after suffering a massive heart attack.
He was born Aug. 17, 1945, in Tacoma, Wash., and spent his youth in the Tacoma and Seattle areas. He graduated from West Seattle High School in 1963 and the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago in 1967 with a major in missions and aviation training.
He married Joanne Hegland in 1967. They came to Alaska as missionary church planters in 1973 with Baptist Mid-Missions. The last four years have been spent in Juneau in a team ministry at Bethany Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Richter, of Juneau and daughters Lisa Armstrong of Irkutsk, Russia, and Tammi Reid of Petersburg; his mother, Louise, and sisters, Diane, Linda and Vicki, who live in Washington. There are five grandsons.
A graveside service was held March 31 in Bremerton, Wash., and a memorial service was held April 1 at Gatewood Baptist Church in Seattle, where he had grown up and determined to serve in full-time ministry.
The family suggested any memorial gifts be sent to Baptist Mid-Missions, P.O. Box 308011, Cleveland, Ohio, 44130-8011, for Donald Richter Memorial Russian Church Fund.
