Lifelong Juneau resident Denise Arlene Smallwood died March 6, 2007, in Juneau. She was 46.

Born March 10, 1960, in Juneau, she attended Juneau-Douglas High School. She was a dispatcher for Haida Cab.

According to her family, her favorite occupation was birthday party planner and hostess for her numerous nieces and nephews. She enjoyed cooking, baking and babysitting.

She also supported and cared about organizations such as the Girls and Boys Town, Disabled Vets and St. Joseph Indian School.

She was preceded in death by her father, Peter Howard Sr.; siblings, Cindy Howard, Peter Howard Jr., and Lloyd Howard.

She is survived by her husband, James Smallwood, of Juneau; stepson, Ned Smallwood, of Anchorage; mother, Rosalind Howard, of Juneau; sisters, Joanne Jordan, of Valdez, Patricia Howard, of Seattle, Wash., Marcella Fitzhugh, of Everett, Wash., and Kathy Polk, of Juneau; brothers, Henry, Charles, Jim, Stephen and Kevin Howard, of Juneau, and Harold Howard, of Seattle; uncles, Arthur Torres, of Juneau, Jerry Torres, of Marysville, Wash., and Alfred Torres, of Klawock; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Alaska Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3839 Riverside Drive.

Pallbearers will be Lawrence A. Love, Mike Patterson, Rick Ostman, Vern McGee, Ernie Williams and Arthur Torres.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ward Lamb, Mark Sateri and John Borbridge.
