THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Juneau resident Genevieve "Gina" Janet (Hanlon) Squartsoff, 69, died June 2, 2006, after a brief illness at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage.
She was born on March 7, 1937, in Hoonah, to Eli Hanlon Sr. and Jenny Hanlon. Her Tlingit name was Koon naa shaa. She was of the Raven clan, Coho, T'look Nuth Adei. She was the child of Wooshkeetaan, and grandchild of Kaagwantaan and Chookaneidee.
A graduate of Sheldon Jackson High School, she was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, reading, camping, scenic rides with family, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a shareholder of Sealaska and Goldbelt corporations, and an enrolled member of the Tlingit Haida Indians of Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eli Hanlon Sr. and Jenny Hanlon; husband, Mike Squartsoff; sons, Franklin and Delbert; and brother, David Hanlon.
She is survived by daughters, Yvonne Powell, Cathy Squartsoff and Valerie Squartsoff; sons, Michael, Clifford and Andrew Squartsoff; uncle, Sam Hanlon Sr.; aunt, Cecelia Unick; sisters, Beatrice Knudson, Christine Jack and Terri Hanlon; brother, John Hanlon; Eli Hanlon Jr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Combined memorial and funeral services will be at 7 p.m. June 7 at the Tlingit and Haida Community Center on Hospital Drive.
