Obituary - Herbert E. Storey

Former Juneau resident and Alaska Marine Highway captain Herbert E. Storey, 81, died Nov. 28, 2006, in Mount Vernon, Wash.

He was born March 30, 1925, in Akron, Colo., to Herbert E. Storey and Esther (Lodwig) Storey, then moved to Seattle with his parents at an early age and attended school there.

Family members said he had a love for the sea that began when he was 15 and lasted his lifetime. He worked for Foss tugs, Black Ball Line and then the Washington State Ferries, and in 1963, he accepted a job as captain with the Alaska Marine Highways and moved to Juneau. He retired in 1990 as captain of the Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Evon Storey. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Davies and her husband, Ron; son, Randy Storey; grandchildren, Darcie Seibel and her husband, Travis, Mark Davies and Nick Storey; and great grandchildren, Bryce Davies-Brown and Colby Seibel, all of Juneau; brother, Phil Storey, of Marysville, Wash.; special family, Chuck and Adria Fisher, Neva and Bill Wiess, Shirley Dorsey, Elizabeth Adams, Lee and Mary Ellen Dorsey and Herman Wohlfeil; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no service at his request, but a celebration of his life will be held at a later date at his home in Mount Vernon.
