THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Long-time Juneau resident Filomeno 'Fil' Subeldia died Nov. 21, 2001, in Juneau. He was 75.
Born in Calinog, Philippines, on Nov. 29, 1925, Subeldia began a career with the U.S. Army at Far East USAFFE in the Philippines in 1944. He served until 1949, then worked for Trans-Ocean Airlines.
In 1957 he was transferred to Oakland, Calif., and in 1962 he moved to Juneau to work for the Alaska Coastal Airlines/Alaska Airlines. He served in Vietnam from 1970-73, then worked with the U.S. General Services Administration until retiring at age 65.
He was an active member of the local Filipino Community, and enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Lory; sister Nora Vicente, Philippines; son Phillip, Juneau; son George, Great Lakes, Ill.; daughter Editha and her husband Ken, Italy; daughter Thelma, Juneau; daughter Nelda and her husband Tom, Juneau; daughter Norma and her husband John, Juneau; and six grandchildren.
A rosary and viewing will be held on Sunday, Nov. 25, 3-5 p.m., at the Alaskan Mortuary and Memorial Park. A special Mass will be held Monday, Nov. 26, 1:30 p.m., at St. Paul's Catholic Church. It will be followed by burial at the mortuary and reception will follow at the Filipino Community.
