THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Longtime Douglas resident Donald E. (Dux) Thompson died Dec. 20, 2001, at his home in Douglas.
He was born April 17, 1934, in Morton, Wash. He came to Juneau in 1962 after serving time in Korea and 11 years in Vietnam as a Green Beret. Over the course of his life, he worked for Island Logging, did construction work around Southeast and worked for the City and Borough of Juneau.
He was a member of the Moose Club, a life member of Elks 420, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Juneau Golf Club.
He loved fishing, hunting, traveling, golf and his many friends. He was described as having a wonderful gift for making everyone laugh; humor was a part of his being.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Nancy, his son, Sheldon Thompson, his daughter-in-law Rebecca, his sister-in-law Roberta Rodgers of Douglas, his sisters Ila Bagley of Tacoma, Wash., and Bonnie Martin of Packwood, Wash., his brother Jack Thompson of Cosmopolis, Wash., and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in his name may be sent to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice and Home Care of Juneau, 3200 Hospital Drive, Juneau, AK, 99801.
