THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Wayne E. Weeks died on Sept. 16 in Seattle.
Born May 1, 1937 in Hombirg, Ill., Weeks came to Alaska in 1959 and lived most of his adult life here. He worked on the DEWLine for the state of Alaska and operated his own small business. Although officially retired as a state employee, he spent the summer 2001 as a park ranger in Glacier Bay.
Weeks married Lois Phillips in 1961 and had one son, Eric. In 1985, he married Velma Capps of North Carolina. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 131 of Golconda, the Southern Ill. University Alumni Association, the Northern Light United Church in Juneau and Forest Hills Church in Wilson, N.C.
He coached baseball and basketball teams, worked in the Southeast Alaska Boy Scout Council, and was a friend of the Alaska State Museum. He enjoyed sports, the outdoors and travel.
He is survived by his wife Velma; son Eric and daughter-in-law Ellen of Portland, Ore.; stepson Kelley Sharp and his wife Anna of Juneau; stepdaughter Beverly Newsholme and her husband Erik of Atlanta, Ga.; stepdaughter Angie Harris and her husband Randy of Durham, N.C.; brother Larry Weeks of Juneau; sister Betty Medearis of Elgin, Ill.; and grandchildren Jennifer and Andrea Sharp of Juneau, Emma and Ethan Weeks of Portland, Ore., and Cameron Harris of Durham, N.C.
Visitation will be at Northern Light Church on Sept. 21, 2001, from 4-5:30 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 5:30. Private burial will be held on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Northern Light Church in Juneau or Forest Hills Baptist Church Building Fund in Wilson, N.C.
