Longtime Alaska resident Celia Elizabeth Wellington died Dec. 8, 2001, at the Juneau Pioneers' Home.

She was born Feb. 3, 1909, in Anoka, Minn., to George M. and Edith Tuttle. She was raised in Washington state, graduated from college in Cheney, Wash., and came to Alaska in 1929 to teach school in Ketchikan, where she met and married Jim Wellington.

In her 72 years in Alaska, Wellington lived in Ketchikan, Anchorage, Douglas, Seward, Fairbanks and Juneau. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Juneau. Her interests included reading, traveling, stamp collecting and making quilts and afghans for her family and friends. She was an avid spots fan. She was a member of Eastern Star and the Pioneers of Alaska. Her family says she will be especially missed for her wonderful hugs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a great-granddaughter and her husband of 49 years.

She is survived by her daughter Edie Bonnett and her husband Lou, Juneau; son Pat Wellington and his wife Dottie, Anchorage; grandchildren: Pat Wellington Jr. and his wife Lucy, Boston; Mike Wellington and his wife Jane, Anchorage; Doug Wellington and his wife Dawn, Vancouver, Wash.; Paula Money and her husband Eric, Vancouver, Wash.; Karen Petersen and her husband Mark, Juneau; Craig Bonnett and his wife Dawn, Juneau; and 11 great-grandchildren.

At her request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Residents Council of the Juneau Pioneers Home, 4675 Glacier Highway, Juneau, 99801.
