THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
William R. "Bill" West died Aug. 20, 2001, in Renton, Wash., after suffering a heart attack.
Born March 17, 1950, to Billie Dick West and Florence (Hanbury) West in Ketchikan, West moved to Juneau in 1958 where he married Linda Homme and was father to three children.
West was a heavy equipment operator with the Teamster's Local 959. He worked the winter months at the Juneau International Airport, and for many years enjoyed commercial fishing in Southeast Alaska. He was an active sportsman who enjoyed spending time with his children and volunteering as a soccer coach.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Linda; children Hayley, Bret and Ryan; mother Florence of Washington; brother Gerald and his wife Sandi of Missouri; brother Greg and his wife Linda of Washington; brother Pat and his wife Rita of Washington; brother Johnnie of Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at Sandy Beach Shelter on Sept. 23, 2001, at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions for his children's continuing education may be made to the Bill West memorial fund at Alaska Pacific Bank.
