THE JUNEAU EMPIRE
Former Juneau resident John F. "Oreo" Winninghoff died June 14, 2001, in Billings, Mont.
He was born March 5, 1945, in Butte, Mont. He graduated from Granite High School in 1963 and then attended Western Montana College.
Winninghoff worked as a miner for 38 years in Washington, Nevada, Colorado, Alaska and Montana, including a stint at Greens Creek mine on Admiralty Island. He loved fishing, camping, hunting, harvesting mushrooms, and collecting rock specimens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wilber and Elizabeth Winninghoff, and sister, Mary Catherine.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his children and their families, Carma and Wayne Wittwer of Stevensville, David Ray and Janet of Texas, Beth Ann Winninghoff of Missoula; his ex-wife, Ann Winnighoff of Missoula; his three grandchildren, Kendra, Sheldon and Colton Wittwer.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. June 22 in the Granite High School Gymnasium in Philipsburg, Mont.
