Obituary - Vincent Yadao, Sr.

Longtime Juneau resident Vincent P. Yadao Sr. died Feb. 28, 2001, at his home in Juneau surrounded by his family. He was 90.

He was born April 5, 1910, in Camiling Tarlac, Philippines. He immigrated to the United States at 17 and learned the value of hard work in the sugar cane fields of Hawaii and fruit fields of California. Cannery work brought him to Alaska and he settled in Juneau and raised a family.

His family wrote that he was an adventurer and loved to travel. He often spoke of his fond memories of Chicago and his love for Frank Sinatra's music. He entertained his grandchildren by playing harmonica and with stories of his adventures and his boxing days.

He was preceded in death by his parents Pedro and Eduarda Yadao, his sisters Gabina and Mercedes, and his brothers Mauro, Pascual, Silveriano and Abraham Yadao.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Eufemia S. Yadao, his children Carolyn Yadao (and Jesse Licon) of California, Debby Tomaro (and Paul) and Vincent P. Yadao Jr., (and Anna) of Juneau; grandchildren Justin Licon, Linsey and Dillon Tomaro, Vanessa, Joshua and Anthony Yadao, his sister Monica Yadao and brother Alfredo Yadao (and family) of the Philippines, brother Juan Yadao (and family) of Juneau and numerous nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Alaskan Mortuary. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Cathedral of the Nativity Catholic Church.

Pallbearers will be Taurino, Leo and Efren Yadao, Mauricio Orley, Monico, Bernie, Arnold and Alex Carrillo Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Juan, Alfredo and Romy Yadao Sr., Mariano and Alfonso Soriano, Isabelo Bautista, Rey Jose and Alex Carrillo Sr.
