BOROUGH FORMATION

Bristol Bay Borough was incorporated as the state's first borough in 1962. It is located in Southwestern Alaska at the head of Kvichak (KWEE-jak) Bay, an arm of the larger Bristol Bay. The borough functions as the official governing body for Naknek, South Naknek, and King Salmon. It is known as the "Red Salmon Capital of the World" as well as the "Gateway to Katmai National Park and Preserve."

The Bristol Bay Borough offices are located in Naknek. (The borough offices for Lake & Peninsula Borough are located in King Salmon.)

Dillingham Census Area was created in 1980. The largest populated place is the city of Dillingham.
