- Alaska Department of Health and Social Services,
Division of Public Health
(fka Bureau of Vital Statistics)
Under Alaska law, all Vital Statistics records are treated
with strict confidentiality until they become public records. Births become
public records 100 years after the event; deaths, marriages, and divorces
become public records 50 years after the event.
- Alaska Department of Natural Resources,
Recorder's Office
There are several Recorder's Offices throughout Alaska. They maintain deeds.
A deed is the written legal document transferring ownership of property, not
just land, and it may contain a variety of pieces of genealogical
information such as full names of parents, children, siblings, spouses,
previous residences, etc.

- Alaska Native Corporations
The Alaska
Native Claims Settlement Act (1971) divided all of Alaska into
12 Regions of historic native cultural commonality. For each
Region, a “Regional Corporation” was established, including
money and Alaskan land. In turn, each Regional Corporation
identified and established some 200 plus Villages, which in turn
became "Village Corporations" with money and land within the
Region. The Regions also enrolled all Alaska Natives (a 13th
Region included Alaska Natives not living in Alaska).
