1988 Encyclopedia of Frontier Biography by Dan L. Thrapp,
includes a short bio of Pete Anderson on page 25 Anderson, Pete, sourdough,
mountain climber (c. 1878-post 1937). One of two men (the other was Billy
Taylor) to make the first confirmed ascent of Mt. McKinley, scaling its more
difficult and slightly lower North Peak May 17, 1910. Anderson was described by
his companion as a "big, husky Swede. Hell of a good fellow on the trail. Him
and I'd go along and never have no trouble at all." A prospector and Alaskan
sourdough, Anderson eventually settled at Nenana where, in 1937, he owned a
tinsmith shop.
