BOROUGH FORMATION

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough was officially created 1964 Jan 01.

It was named for the two rivers, Matanuska and Susitna Rivers, which both flow only within the borough's boundaries. They empty into Cook Inlet at the southern border of the borough.

Palmer is the borough seat.
